The Game of Life is most definitely one of my favourite games of all time! I was so excited when i seen it in the app store it was literally mine within 10 seconds, didn't even have to think twice before clicking buy. The insane amounts of money, all the weird and wonderful things you can get up to in your life and naturally end up in a mansion (really who would choose the country cottage when you have £700,000 in the bank) .
Unfortunately you no longer get to set the board up with all the little buildings (a challenge in itself most the time) the graphic style and 3D land are really beautiful. Brilliantly you do still get that incredibly satisfying sound when you spin the wheel with your finger and it gradually clicks down to your number. I found it really helpful how it took all the confusion out of the game but at the same time this means the game lacks human error or missed opportunities which are quite often the interesting parts of a board game. I do admit with the real board game I do end up re-reading the instructions throughout the game so the app at least saved me that chore.
One thing I do resent is having to play as a middle aged American mum looking cartoon character called Mary! I'd rather just be a coloured car like you are in the normal game and I don't see the need to make up four pointless characters no one will want to play as.
I did feel a bit lost in the game and had no idea if i was near the end or where the other players were on the board. Even when exploring the map from a birds eye view it's not clear where the game starts or ends to know how far you have to go (as the game does take a very long time). You can fast forward and skip other players turns, however you loose track of what's happening and have no idea if you've lost money to them or how they're progressing.
Just like the board game it is all about luck which may get a little boring on a regular basis but never the less fun once and while to reminisce!
